Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 4 cups homemade mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl; form into equal-sized patties about one inch thick.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat; cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  3. Remove patties; deglaze skillet with beef broth, scraping up any bits from the bottom. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Layer half of the mashed potatoes in a baking dish, place patties on top, and pour gravy over them.
  5. Spread remaining mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
