- 3–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb)
- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter (3 for chicken, 3 for sauce)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- Fresh garlic, to taste (about 2 cloves)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Chop chicken into bite-sized pieces, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Cook elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté chicken until golden brown (5-7 minutes).
- In another pot, melt remaining butter for the sauce. Stir in flour to create a roux, cooking until light golden brown.
- Gradually whisk in milk until thickened. Stir in cheese until melted, then add soy sauce, honey, and cayenne.
- Combine pasta and sautéed chicken with the cheese sauce. Transfer to a baking dish and bake for about 20 minutes until bubbly.
